Response to the Word of God
FIRST DAY—SPIRITUAL CHILDHOOD
FIRST DAY—SPIRITUAL CHILDHOOD
Whoever is a little one, let them come to me.
Prov. 9:4
You can see that I am a very little soul and that I can offer God only very little things. I am too little to perform great actions. Jesus does not demand great actions from us but only surrender and gratitude.
St. Therese
SECOND DAY—CONFIDENCE
I have loved you with an everlasting love.
Jer. 31:3
We can never have too much confidence in the Good God. He is so mighty and merciful. As we hope in Him, so we shall receive. . . I believe, I hope, I love
St. Therese
THIRD DAY—ABANDONMENT
Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
Luke 23:46
I can no longer ask for anything with fervor except the accomplishment of God’s will
in my soul.
St. Therese
FOURTH DAY— FAITH
Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believe.
John 20:29
For one whose faith is like a mustard seed, God grants miracles and moves mountains to strengthen this faith. For God’s intimate friends, He works miracles before having tried their faith. But after the trial what a reward!
St. Therese
FIFTH DAY—HUMILITY
I tell you, then, the great love she has shown proves that her many sins are forgiven.
Luke 7:47
Well, I am this child, the object of the foreseeing love of a Father who has not sent
His Word to save the just, but sinners.
St. Therese
SIXTH DAY—SUFFERING
Take up your cross and follow Me.
Mark 8:34
Jesus in his immense love has chosen for us, of all crosses, the most precious. How can we complain when He Himself has been considered as one struck by God and afflicted? We want to bless the present moment only; I have only today.
St. Therese
SEVENTH DAY— LOVE OF THE GOSPELS
My words will not pass away.
Blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep it.
Luke 11:28
The Kingdom of God is within you. It is especially the Gospels which sustain me during my hours of prayer, for in them I find what is necessary for me. I am constantly discovering in them new lights, hidden and mysterious lights.
St. Therese
EIGHTH DAY—PRAYER
If you abide in Me... ask whatever you will and it shall be done to you.
John 15:7
How great is the power of prayer! For me, prayer is an aspiration of the heart; it is a simple glance directed toward heaven; it is a cry of gratitude and love in the midst of trial as well as joy; finally, it is something great which unites me to Jesus.
St. Therese
NINTH DAY—LOVE OF ALL
This is my commandment: that you love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:12
I understand now that charity consists in bearing with the faults of others, in not being surprised at their weakness, in being edified by the smallest acts of virtue we see them practice.
This is my commandment: that you love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:12
I understand now that charity consists in bearing with the faults of others, in not being surprised at their weakness, in being edified by the smallest acts of virtue we see them practice.
St. Therese
MY VOCATION IS LOVE
St. Paul explains how the most perfect gifts are nothing without love. Charity gave me the key to my vocation. The Church has a heart and this Heart was burning with love. I understood that LOVE comprised all vocations, that love was everything, that it embraced all times and places. . . in a word, that it was eternal! My vocation is Love! Yes, I have found my place in the Church, my Mother. I shall be love.
St. Therese
NOVENA PRAYER
Loving God, open our eyes to the light of faith and truth. May your light and love sustain us at all times. May Saint Therese guide us on her Little Way and teach us to receive everything as a grace. We want to say with her: Each moment brings an opportunity to choose your will in love. In joy, in sorrow, in every circumstance of life, may our hearts rest in yours.
